  Efiling

Efiling with UFile

Your efile setup:
To efile, you must first set up your Preferences by entering your CRA efile number and password. You only need to set up your preferences once after installing UFile Pro.

  1. Click Tools, then Preferences.
  2. Set up the location of your tax files. Use the Browse button to choose the correct drive and directory. Note: If you are using a diskette it must be formatted and not write-protected.
  3. Click Efile On-Line or Efile On-Line Plus and then click OK.
  4. Complete the area at the bottom of the screen by entering your CRA efile number, password, name and business name.

Preparing your system:
In order to be able to find your .TAX files easily when efiling, it is best to ensure that Windows Explorer displays your file extensions:

  1. Right-click the Windows "Start" button and select Explore.
  2. Select Folder Options from Windows Explorer's Tools menu.
  3. Click the View tab and untick the option that reads "Hide file extensions". (If this option is already unticked, click Close.)
  4. Click Apply and then OK.

Efiling the return:
Prepare the return and look for the EFILE logo on the Results screen. Here you can see if the return is ready to efile, and if not, why it cannot be efiled at this time. Correct any efile errors. Print out the T183 form, which is found with the other pages of the tax return, and have it signed by the taxpayer.

Now you are ready to efile.

Efiling using Efile On-Line (EOL):
Click the NETFILE tab in the toolbar and follow these steps:

  1. Select the first family member whose return who wish to file. (Click here to view)

  4. If the return was accepted by the CRA, record the confirmation number they gave you.
  5. If the return was rejected, review the error message, fix the problem and try again.
  6. Repeat this process for each taxpayer in the family.

Efiling using Efile On-Line Plus (EOL+):
Click the NETFILE tab in the toolbar and follow these steps.

  1. Print and have your client sign form T183.
  2. Add verified tax returns to the efile batch. (Click here to view)
  3. Submit the batch to the government.
  4. Pick up your acknowledgements (available a few hours after submitting a batch). (Click here to view)
  5. Review any efile errors, correct them and resubmit.
  6. Follow up on any batches for which you do not have acknowledgement reports.

Efiling Quebec returns

Efile online:(EOL)

If you are using Efile On-Line, then Quebec returns will be filed using NETFILE Québec. You must transmit the .MRQ file for each family member to Revenu Québec by clicking the button provided to that end. Please note the following limitations of NETFILE Québec:

  • Print form TP-1000, which you will find is one of the forms produced by UFile Pro, and have the taxpayer sign Part 2.
  • No authorization to represent the taxpayer is sent in the NETFILE Québec record. Part 3 of the TP-1000 TE should not be signed by the taxpayer.
  • The field Explanation submitted to Revenu Québec on the Efile page of the QuikClik Navigator is not transmitted.

Efile On-Line Plus (EOL+):

If you want to efile Quebec returns, you must also register with Revenu Québec. Once you are registered, tick the Quebec box under Tools -> Preferences and enter your Quebec registration information.

You can legally efile a taxpayer's Quebec return after he or she signs form TP-1000 (Quebec equivalent of federal form T183).

Remember: You must use a separate Quebec efile batch for Quebec returns, which you will manage similarly to the federal batch. Submit your Quebec batches separately to Revenu Québec using the Quebec Submit batch button. Submitting a federal batch will not have the effect of submitting the Quebec batch as well. If you are set up for federal efile, you can find all controls for Quebec efile in the same dialogue as the corresponding federal controls.

If you are using EOL for your Federal returns, you must change your preferences to EOL+ in order to EFile your Quebec returns.

Receiving acknowledgements:
When NetFiling or using Efile On-Line, you will be forwarded to the appropriate CRA page on the Web and will obtain your acknowledgement after filling. When using Efile On-Line Plus, your batch manager will allow you to pick up acknowledgment reports, then review and print them.

Additional help on efiling is available in the general help under Efiling.
