UFile comes in two platforms — UFile ONLINE and UFile for Windows. Both let you prepare and file your Canadian tax return, and they share the same core features: both are NETFILE-certified, both support Auto-fill my return (which imports your slips directly from the CRA), both are backed by UFile's Triple Guarantee, both handle everything from simple to more complex returns, and both are available in English and French, including Quebec returns. The main difference is where the software runs and where your information is stored.
UFile ONLINE is a web-based application. There's nothing to download or install — you simply sign in with your username and password through your web browser and work on your return online. Because it runs in the cloud, you can access your file from any computer or device with an internet connection, and your data is saved securely on UFile's servers, where a copy of your return is kept available to you for several years. The software is always up to date automatically, and the online platform is also where the UFile Premium option is offered. UFile for Windows is a program you download and install on your own Windows computer. Once installed, you prepare your return on that computer, and your tax data is stored locally on your machine rather than online. It's sold as a package that covers a set number of returns (for example, a 4-return or a 12-return edition). Because it's installed software, it requires a supported version of Windows. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 15, 2025, so UFile recommends using Windows 11 for the best experience and continued security.
